River
When were 3 times in your life when things were good?
And what about 3 times when things were bad?
Have you ever held onto some of these hardships,
feeling powerless to move past them?
Just as a river twists and turns, sometimes flowing easily, sometimes tumbling over rocks and waterfalls… so Grow Leadership participants reflect on the ups and downs of their lives so far. Many have faced real hardship, and the pain of their experiences is holding them back. The River of Life is about young people accepting that they can’t change the past but realising that they can create the future they want. That the future is in their hands.

Young People Trained
“Training allowed me to be free from a fixed mindset. Before training I believed wrong things about family planning. In training I learned how family planning makes you safe, and it helps to make plans for your future life– you can manage income and know when to have the next child and plan according to your income. I am now a more responsible father. When I talk to my friends and other men, I tell them to be responsible, to be the example, and to use family planning.”

“In the beginning the majority of us were thinking about capital as the major obstacle to start or grow our business. Or for someone to succeed they must inherit wealth from their parents or use witchcraft, but we have learned that the first capital is your health and ability. You can use the resources you have to start and grow your business.”

“After training, I was able to grow my business and make more money each month. This meant that I could buy books and other school supplies for my siblings. My sister is 15 and taking science as her major in secondary school. She needed a lot of books for her studies. By buying her the books, it helped her do better in school- her grades were in the middle division (3) during Form 2 (sophomore year) and now they are in the top division (1) in Form 3 (junior year)!”
